Windham Academy Board of Trustees Welcomes New Leadership

The Windham Academy Board of Trustees held its last meeting of the 2019-2020 academic year on June 10, 2020. Jim Fricchione announced his intention to step down as Chairman of the Board, after serving for 2.5 years. The board voted unanimously to elect Trustee Walter Cartwright to the role of Chairman.

Walter Cartwright, Chairman

Mr. Fricchione championed the effort to create Windham Academy beginning in 2013, and has held the position of Chairman since December of 2017, when the charter for Windham Academy was approved and the board was formed. He has been involved with Windham Academy since the idea was born, and spent 4 years working to get Windham Academy approved and chartered. Once approved in 2017, the school opened in just 6 months, in time for the 2018-2019 academic year with 90 students in grades K-3. “It’s been a tremendous effort to get our school to where it is. Now, as we enter our third year of instruction with nearly 250 students from 18 New Hampshire communities, it’s time to pass the reins to the next generation of leadership. Walter has brought a wonderful energy to the board during his tenure, and I’m confident in his ability to take Windham Academy to the next level,” said Mr. Fricchione about his decision to step down as chairman. He will remain on the board as a trustee.

Mr. Cartwright, a Windham resident and owner of Brothers Realty and Construction, has been a member of the board since 2019, and currently has a son entering 1st grade at Windham Academy. “I’m excited to step into this new role as Chairman of the Board. Jim’s leadership has been invaluable in getting us to where we are today. Windham Academy is an incredible place and I’m looking forward to the work of fulfilling our chartered mission to provide the best STEAM education for New Hampshire’s students, as well as growing and expanding our school,” said Mr. Cartwright.

Meg Bedrick, Vice Chairman

The board also voted Meg Bedrick as Vice Chairman. Ms. Bedrick previously served as Secretary of the Board. “I’m honored and ecstatic to be a taking on this new challenge as Vice Chairman. I’ve been involved with Windham Academy from the beginning, and look forward to continuing to grow our school,” said Ms. Bedrick. The Bedrick family has three children who will all be attending Windham Academy in the fall.

Chris Baker will retain his role as Treasurer, and Sean Donahue will take over the position of Secretary. The board is rounded out by trustees Vinny Del Signore and Karl Dubay.

Windham Academy staff and students in grades K-5 will begin the next school year in a state-of-the-art 24,000 sq. ft. facility at 1 Industrial Drive in Windham. The first floor of the building was renovated and opened in September of 2019, and the 2nd floor will be completed this summer.
